This PoW algorithm that is used on MoneroBytecoin, Electroneum, etc provides egalitarian terms for all miners. From that guide what we came to know is that most users finding difficulty in configuring the miner.
So we decided to make a beginners guide on XMRig which is easy to setup and a much more flexible miner compared to other alternatives. This guide is only for Windows users. Below is the table of algorithm names and variants that XMRig supports.
It is an open source software so you can either download the binaries and use the miner or you can compile your own from its source. First thing is to head to the download page of the miner and download the latest version. XMRig is available for both 32 bit and 64 bit operating system so before you download make sure to choose the correct version. Check your system properties for this information. What are they? So which one to download? Now download the right miner and unzip the file.
Upon doing this your Antivirus or Windows defender may flag the miner as Trojan. Just add exclusions and extract the miner on to your desktop. Your setup is ready. How to configure and use XMRig? So get ready with the wallet address and the pool connection details. We are not going to get in to that part as it makes this guide go beyond its purpose. In all three miner versions that is within the unzipped folder you should see this three files such as: config. There are 2 ways in which you can configure and run XMRig.
By editing the settings in config. By creating a simple command line Windows batch file. There are only 4 main settings which you need to edit to start mining. Rest all other settings are secondary.GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together. Right now with vega it suggests an intensity of around and the max i can seem to set it is around but that doesn't come close to maxing vega. Hi, its not working for me, i edit the config. Tried with commas and without between threads. Example "threads": [.
Tried this in a rig with 3 Vega 64s, crashes with a CL memory error. Works with auto settings but has a low hash rate. Skip to content. This article is more of a case study, overview of most of the Cryptonight mining software, as well as a how to, to be able to test them out for yourself.
Cryptonight Algorithm Mining Software Overview and Comparison
Any opinions or speed benchmarks presented in this article are just opinions, and rough estimations. They are not facts. I was curious though to see how well it performed against other mining software, and I wanted to also do more research on the features of the other mining software.
Personally, my main priority was to find the fastest mining software. I also wanted the ability to remotely monitor if the miner was still running, and what speed it was running at. I do like the idea of open source software, but I mainly wanted the fastest miner. I also did not really care about the GPU monitoring features. Here is a features chart I have created, to quickly compare each of the mining software I will be reviewing:. XMR-Stak is probably the mining software that has the most features, and can run on the most platforms.
To begin the test I ran the miner for one hour, and then I took the 15 minute average speed that it reports, as the speed benchmark. XMR-Stak reported the speed to be XMR-Stak gave no stale or invalid shares during the testing. One thing to note is this mining software does not support SSL either.
The results were slightly lower than XMR-Stak. I personally do not use SSL, but I would like the option to use it.
My plan was to run the miner for one hour, but I only ran it for 18 minutes, because it was clearly not as fast as the other two mining software. The results were a lot lower than XMR-Stak.
Cryptonight (XMR,RYO,XHV,AEON,…) Mining Guides and Miners Configs
I also prefer open source software. I had to take the average of a section, because I was using the —fastjobswitch option. However, since XMR-Stak is open source, one could lower or remove the fee completely. For the next round of testing I was going to test them using the statistics on the mining pool. I figure this is a long enough time to get a good reading, but not too long for a pool to lose connection or something that could make the test invalid. Here is the full features chart, so that you can easily compare which mining software may be right for you.
The reason for this was that the most important feature to me was speed. I also like that XMR-Stak is the most compatible with operating systems and components, compared to the other mining software. I do like the fact that it is open source and allows you to decide if and when you want to donate.Edit: This article is now outdated. Mining Monero with xmr-stak-amd is pretty straightforward.
It is one of the best miners as it is very customizable. This guide will walk you through setting up xmr-stak-amd for your AMD video card or cards.
It helps to create a folder that stores all of your mining files for easy reference. Editing config. Each video card will have different settings. The best way to find these settings is by trial and error or by researching your video card. Simply type your video card model into the search bar, make sure you only search MoneroMining and then start your research. I will show you the basics of editing the config. Before we start messing with the video card settings lets make sure your pool settings are correct.
Your default config. Your pool is up to you. Its how many threads you want to run. As you can see by default it is set to 6. This means that there has to be exactly six total indexes. You can see in the example above that there are 6 indexes, starting at 0 and going to 5.
The default example given above is for a mining rig with 6 video cards. Lets look at an example where you only have 1 AMD video card you wish to mine. You would simply change the above to:. Pretty straight forward. Since we only have one video card, we are going to run 1 gpu thread and one index with a value of 0, since it is the first video card. You should now be on your way to mining Monero with your AMD card. Keep tuning your intensity to find the sweet spot.
It is possible to run 2 GPU Threads per card. You will need to halve the intensity. I have had great results increasing hash rate this way. In the above examples, for one video card, instead of this:. Note that we have two index entries but they both use the same index of 0. This means that two GPU threads will be created and they will both run on one video card.
Best GPU Configurations for Mining Monero (XMR): August 2017
Each GPU Thread will have an intensity of instead of As you can see, there is a lot of tuning that can be done to get the best out of your system. Its up to the developer. These hardware configurations are the highest reported for mining Monero.
This guide has been updated for Mining Monero in February. Find this guide helpful? One of the best to mine right now is XMR because the GPU miners for it is pretty new and there is a new generation of GPU miners for it, that are pretty good If you use them you could a pretty good hash rate and earn abit. I am getting a lazy hash rate and i have noticed this on the new version of Claymore Cryptonote miner version I have tried to look at the ps1 files and txt files in the miners folder but it is a little more complicated than i thought.
Not sure if this will help you, but with xmrig, I've noticed it picks some dumb threading options at times. AMD seems to like 2 threads. The fix would be to generate the config file, and have to options as configurable parameters set by MultiMinerPool. Oh and to get rid of XMRIG completely would be to add junk to the launching command line, so it errors when launching.
It looks like after 3 tries MPM will mark it as bad and move onto the next most profitable miner. I would also delete the associated hash stats file from the stats directory. MPM will try and test the has rate again, it will fail and remove it from rotation. The solution that station provided sounds like it would work.
Thanks for replying nevertheless. I am looking forward to more future days with Miningpoolhub and Aaron and everybody;'s company. I will have a look in readme files if there is contact details. I have tried forums before but then the threads get hijacked by an unrelated comment so you then lose your voice which is crap. Skip to content.
